The District Training Chairman, a member of the District
Committee, was the individual responsible for the training of both scout and adult leaders.
The responsibility came easy for me as I had been in scouting for ten years.
I had no distractions that the youth have today. There were no home video
games or computers (my first was purchased in 1979 - a TRS80). I'm sure I
would have stayed in scouting if it weren't for my work in Vallejo, a lengthy
commute which resulted in a move from San Francisco. My only reward for
performing in this totally volunteer position were the compliments I would get
from my students. They would get the satisfaction in knowing they earned
the training knot.
